Announcement of School Site Closures 3/13

Dear Oro Grande School District Families,

After careful deliberation and in collaboration with other High Desert school districts, the Oro Grande School District has decided to close Riverside Preparatory schools beginning Monday, March 16, through Friday, March 20, in an effort to provide extra protective measures to help prevent the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19). In addition, our regularly scheduled Spring Break will be March 23 through March 27. At this point, we plan on resuming school for all students on Monday, March 30, but we will continue to monitor the situation and adjust our plans, if needed, based on circumstances as they develop.

Mojave River Academy schools will remain open on their regular schedule as they are a 1-on-1 independent study program and can enforce social distancing as needed.

While there have been no confirmed cases of COVID-19 in any of our schools, we are taking this step to help protect the health of our students, staff, families and surrounding communities. We are facing an unprecedented health crisis, with new information surfacing rapidly, and must make the health and safety of all of our stakeholders our top priority.

This closure is in support of the recommendations from public health officials to encourage social distancing to help slow the spread of the virus. Students should stay home and minimize social contact as much as possible. While children have not been shown to be a high-risk group for serious illness from this virus, they can transmit the virus to those most vulnerable.

At this time, pick-up meals for students will be available at the Oro Grande School District starting Monday, March 16. Times and locations will be announced on Monday.

Please know that we do not make these decisions lightly. School is an essential service and we know the significant impact these closures will have on our communities. We hope to resume normal operations as soon as possible, but will continue to assess the situation moving forward, and appreciate your understanding during this challenging time.

Sincerely,

Dr. Heather Griggs

Oro Grande School District Superintendent
